Big Ten Football Week 11 Review Week 11 Record:     4-1      Record:   60-24…..71.4% Wisconsin-62  Indiana-14…..CORRECT…..564 yards rushing…five hundred and sixty four yards gained rushing by Wisconsin…can’t say that I have ever seen that many yards gained on the ground in any one game before…you had to figure that the Badgers were going to grind it out  when they were down to their 3rd different starting QB…Curt Phillips only threw 7 passes for the day…Montee’ Ball had 198 yards on 27 carries and 3 TD’s…congratulations to the Badgers taking Ohio State’s position in the Big Ten title game and representing the Leaders Division for the second straight year…they could stamp the trip with some validity this coming weekend if they can somehow beat the Buckeyes in Madison…we will see. Purdue-27  Iowa-24…..MISS…..Purdue’s kicker Paul Griggs nailed a 46 yard FG as time expired to snap a five game losing streak and temporarily give current Boiler head coach Danny Hope a few moments of comfort….reports leaked near the end of last week that Hope will be fired in a month or so…those kind of reports are a bit childish…someone from Purdue obviously leaked it to a source at some point or another…if you have made a decision to fire a coach…do it…don’t put him out there in limbo for “a month” or so..kind of bush league tactics if you ask me…but good luck the rest of the way coach Hope.. Michigan-38  Northwestern-31 OT…..CORRECT…..I heard a lot of people being critical of Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald on a couple of fronts after the game on Saturday…One…his offensive play calling (when I hear someone squawking about play calling, to me..that is the battle-cry of the uniformed) on the Cats last possession of the regulation where he ran the ball three straight plays, took a delay of game penalty and punted to Michigan…sorry..most coaches would do the same exact thing…Two…the last was a 4th and 2 play in OT that ended the game…that was more of a read by QB Kain Colter…UM came out in a defensive formation that was a little exotic and he gave the ball to the FB on a read and UM LB Kenny Demens blew it up….bottom line…Michigan got lucky..they didn’t stop the Wildcats all day. Minnesota-17  Illinois-3…..CORRECT…..talk about two teams that had no offense…they combined for just 585 yards…but the story here is Illinois and their current 12 game Big Ten losing streak…this is the recipe for a lot of first year Big Ten coaches that don’t get jobs at Michigan or Ohio State…Year one…win two or three nonconference games, if you are lucky you may win one conference game but more than likely you will not…year two..win three or four nonconference games and two or three Big Ten games and be close to winning one or two others…and the progression continues until your finish your seasons at or around 7-5…so I hope next season follows this trend for Tim Beckman…but we have over a year to see if it will..but congrats to Jerry Kill and his staff for getting the Golden Gophers bowl eligible for the first time since 2009. Nebraska-32  Penn State-23…..CORRECT…..it was a touchdown..I don’t care that replay confirmed the on-field call of a fumble…the ball broke the front plane of the end zone line…it should have counted and the Nittany Lions should have gone up with 29-27 with around half the fourth quarter to play…and if it did count, Nebraska probably still wins…but momentum is a crazy, powerful thing in athletics…more so perhaps in college football than in any other sport but it would have had an effect…Penn State was up 20-6 at the half…this is the third conference game in which the Corn has erased a double-digit lead in the second half to win…it certainly would seem that this team is destined for a date in the Big Ten title game doesn’t it?
