My record- 11-1 and 33-3 for the season.  My best pick over the weekend was Arizona State beating Wisconsin 35-28 and the Sun Devils won 32-30…and they shouldn’t have….we’ll get to that in a minute.  My worst pick was Penn State beating Central Florida…the Knights won in Beaver Stadium…so on to the breakdown. Indiana-42  Bowling Green-10….CORRECT….The Hoosiers had two HB’s gain at least 125 yards (Tevin Coleman-130 and Stephen Houston-155) as Indiana tallied over 600 yards of total offense.  The Falcons, noted for a respectable defense, had no answer for the Hoosier-cane offense.    BG actually led this game 10-7 early in the second quarter…but Kevin Wilson and his whirlwind offense put up 35 unanswered to get to his club to 2-1.  Next up for the Hoosiers..a 2-0 Missouri Tiger club. Michigan-28  Akron-24….CORRECT….I came away with a lot of thoughts after this one…the most important of which are the following…1) the interior of Michigan offensive line has a lot, and I mean A LOT of work to do…2) virtually everything that could have gone wrong for Michigan did..and they still won…3) Devin Gardner spent too much time in the periodical section of his library over the past week reading press clippings.  4) Akron isn’t as bad as most people thought…they are good, but they aren’t as bad as most people think. Michigan survives Akron by a thread Minnesota-29  Western Illinois-12….CORRECT….Jerry Kill suffered his fourth epileptic seizure in three season at Minnesota in the first half.  He is resting at a local hospital and seems to be ok.  Starting QB Philip Nelson hobbled off the field after the Gophers third possession of the game and backup Mitch Leidner replaced him and rushed for 64 yards as the Phers held the Leathernecks to just 68 yards on the ground.  Minnesota brings in the 1-1 San Jose State Spartans to the Bank next weekend. UCLA-41  Nebraska-21….CORRECT….the Meltdown is officially underway in Lincoln. This may be the beginning of the end of the Bo Pelini Experience.  The Corn had a 21-3 lead in this game…granted the Bruins were playing with heavy hearts after teammate WR Nick Pasquale was killed last week when struck by a car while walking in his hometown.  The Bruins scored 35 points in just over a quarter of action…it’s the biggest comeback the Huskers have allowed in Lincoln in over 90 years…the vaunted and literal (on this day at least) ‘black shirt’ defense for Nebraska gave up over 500 yards…I could go on like this all day..but I think you get it… Michigan State-55  Youngstown State-17….CORRECT….well it looks like Connor Cook is the answer that MSU head coach Mark Dantonio has been searching for.  Thank goodness…Cook was 15 of 22 for 202 yards and threw four TD passes in the first half as the Spartans blew out the Penguins.  MSU had at least three different HB’s carry the ball nine times and six different ball carriers had a gain of at least 10 yards.  It has to be exciting for fans of the green and white…now let’s see what happens when they play a team from FBS. Read the full game recap here: Connor Cook stakes claim to QB job Iowa-27  Iowa State-21….CORRECT….honestly folks…I gave up on this one…it was 27-7 Hawkeyes with around seven minutes left and I started watching another game…I saw on the score tape at the bottom of the screen that the Cyclones had pulled to within six points and I went back and watched…but that was a much needed W for Kirk Ferentz…now he can come back home to Iowa City and get ready to avenge a 2007 home loss to the Western Michigan Broncos…Read the full game recap here: Hawkeyes re-claim Cy-Hawk Trophy Central Florida-34  Penn State-31….MISS….How about Knight QB Blake Bortles?…he was brilliant vs the Nittany secondary as he was 20-27 for 288 and three TD passes….it just seemed like between him and HB Storm Johnson the UCF offense was a finely tuned instrument that Penn State had no answer for.  Christian Hackenberg played well too…21 of 28 for 262 and a TD…and I think I have one of my Big Ten favorite players…Zack Zwinak…what a runner…21 carries for 128 an three TD’s…man do I like him..I had a lot of love for PSU this week despite them ruining my bid of  a perfect week…CURSE YOU LIONS!! Washington-34  Illinois-24….CORRECT….How about Huskie QB Keith Price?…chucks for 342 and two TD’s…he was very impressive…that’s what a senior QB can do for you…but more notably was Washington HB Bishop Sankey who had a career best 208 yards and a TD…Illini QB Nathan Scheelhaase was harassed all day and fell back to his 2012 like numbers with a 9-25 passing day with 156 yards and one TD and one INT.  The Fighting Illini are off next week and will conclude their nonconference schedule against Miami, Ohio the following week. Read the full game recap here: Illini fall to prey to Huskies Kenny Guiton Ohio State-52  California-34….CORRECT…15 straight for the Buckeyes…and how good is Kenny Guiton?…The Buckeyes just reload folks…it’s the Urban way.  Braxton or no Braxton, this OSU team is loaded from front to back, side to side…any way you look at it really….with the slight possible exception of the defense.  They gave up over 370 yards through the air (over 500 total yards) to a freshman QB who was 31 of 53 vs the ‘Silver Bullitt’ defense.  A lot of teams showed a lot of things this past weekend…but most showed flaws that must be corrected. Read the full game recap here: Ohio State cruises by Cal Notre Dame- 31  Purdue-24….CORRECT….Notre Dame got caught looking ahead to another rivalry game with Michigan State as the Boilermakers played lights out in the loss.  They were aggressive, they blitzed throughout the first half and had the Irish on their heels.  But it was one of those games where you just kept saying to yourself…”It’s only a matter of time before Brian Kelly gets things going”…and that is exactly what happened…but it was a good game as far as Darrell Hazell is concerned…he can build off a good performance like this. Northwestern-38  Western Michigan-17….CORRECT….Treyvon Green….he filled in for the injured Venric Mark and rushed for 158 yards and two TD’s…this is what the difference is between Northwestern five or six years ago and now.  They had talent then, but it was only starter deep…meaning if a starter went down, they had zero talent to replace him….now they do…and the rest of the Big Ten should be taking notice.  The Cats barely missed on racking up over 500 yards in their first three games as the Broncos ‘held’ them to just 474. Arizona State-32  Wisconsin-30….CORRECT….Have you even seen a more bizarre ending to a game?…with less than 20 seconds to go, the Badgers are trailing by two…they have zero timeouts left…QB Joel Stave snaps the ball, runs to the middle of the hashmarks to center the ball for a FG attempt and kneels down…he then places the ball on the ground and waits for the official to spot it so he can spike it and stop the clock…but what happens is some ASU players dive on the ball and sit on it for a few seconds, the officials never spots the ball and the clock runs out?…one of the most confounding finishes ever.  I thought it was all Brett Bielema blunders…but I guess that was what he left in Madison for coach Andersen.
