Big Ten Football Week Four Review

Week Four Record:  7-3…..Record so far….36-10

Central Michigan-32 Iowa-31…..MISS….Ok…I know I picked Iowa TE CJ Fiedorowicz as an All Big Ten player for this season….but did you see him just Ole’ that onside kick by CMU?….Dude, pick up the ball…under what circumstances would a receiving team member just let the ball go by him on an onside kick…a stunner in Kinnick.

Ohio State-29 UAB-15….CORRECT….I love what Urban Meyer said his teams problems were after this poor performance on Saturday…he said he narrowed it down to “offense, defense and special teams”…you gotta love a coach who puts it all out there…but I think there is also a lot of smoke being blown in Columbus…yes..probably both kinds of smoke..

Wisconsin-37 UTEP-26…CORRECT….The Badgers have benched Maryland transfer QB Danny O’Brien..This Joel Stave guy might be the real thing…he looked solid and he had to be with Montee’ Ball going down…Good thing they had James White…but this Wisconsin team is far from good…opening the door for..pretty much anyone other than PSU and OSU to win the Leaders division.

Michigan State-23 Eastern Michigan-7….CORRECT….The Eagles held the lead until there was about a minute to go in the 3rd quarter…MSU has a lot of work to do…first and foremost, protect your QB…Maxwell was running all over the place…secondly…the WR’s have to catch balls that hit them in the hands…and third..maybe find another guy to carry the ball..La’Veon had 36 carries for 253 yards…the rest of MSU’s backs carried the ball 8 times…

Nebraska-73 Idaho State-7….CORRECT….Rex Burkhead and the Corn destroyed the Bengals (sorry for calling them Tigers in the preview)…Burkhead got 119 yards on 8 carries and scored a career long 61 yard run to lead Nebraska…the Corn led 35-0 at the end of the first quarter…BORING!

Northwestern-38 South Dakota-7….CORRECT….Another Big Ten team engulfing a FCS opponent here in Evanston in front of 10’s of fans…seriously…there was nobody at this game…I bet high schools in Chicago have more people at games…Venric Mark led the Cats with 16 carries for 117 yards and three TD’s….

Penn State-24 Temple-13….CORRECT….The Nittany Lions have beaten the Owls 30 straight times in the series…Matt McGloin, Lion QB, threw for 318 a career high…plus he ran for two scores…which I can tell you…did not make me think of Vince Young at all…Penn State is now 2-2…it will probably be the last time they are at or above .500 for a very long time…

Notre Dame-13 Michigan-6….CORRECT….6 turnovers…5 INT’s and 1 fumble….4 of those INT’s were by Denard Robinson…as much as a lot of the blame should go to Robinson..I also feel that Al Borges should shoulder a lot of it too…his pass first philosophy with a slightly better-than-average passer didn’t work too well…a HB pass from the 10 yard line?…I have never liked that call inside the red zone.

Louisiana Tech-52 Illinois-24….MISS….6 turnovers…and the first three were turned into TD’s for the visiting Bulldogs and they never looked back……Nathan Scheelhaase did indeed play but was not good…he was yanked after the first quarter and never came back….This Illini team is going backwards as far as development goes….and that is never a good sign heading into the conference season…

Minnesota-17 Syracuse-10….MISS….two things occurred on Saturday night that I didn’t think would happen at TCF Bank Field…first, the Gopher defense really won the game for Minnesota…putting the clamps on Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib…holding him to 231 yards and 1 TD with 2 INT’s and a fumble..second, the crowd was actually a factor…probably because you can buy alcohol there…but that is a big time W for the Gophers…nice win.
