Big Ten Football Week 7 Review
Week 7 record:     3-2……Record so far:    47-15     75.8%
Iowa-19 Michigan State-16 2OT……..MISS…..was anyone else surprised to see that around this time of year…and by that I mean Halloween…that the biggest scoring threat for Iowa was their kicker…who just happens to be named Mike Meyer?…and if you don’t know what I am talking about…get to a video store or watch Halloween on Netflix (and you may want to catch up on some other ‘current’ events)…back to football…there wasn’t much good football played at the Smoke Stack this weekend…very uneventful football game…those are the ones you need to win….and they are also the ones the Spartans won last year….I guess there is always 2013.
Northwestern-21  Minnesota-13……CORRECT…..if you have been a loyal reader for many years…but I guess you don’t have to be a loyal reader to know that the Wildcats have needed a rushing attack to offset their dink-and-dunk passing game…Well readers…it is safe to say 7 games into the season…now they have one…The Cats have the 4th best rushing attack in the Big Ten and HB Venric Mark is 5th in the conference at just under 114 yards per game…and don’t look now…but they are #2 in the conference at stopping the run too….they may be a legit threat for the Legends title…they get one of the big name kids next week…so we will see.
Wisconsin-38   Purdue-14……MISS……with a constant rain coming down in Ross-Ade Stadium..it played right into the run-heavy, cheese-scented hands of the Badgers.  They attempted just 21 passes on the day and Montee’ Ball went absolutely nuts setting a career mark with 247 yards and 3 TD’s…HB James White also ran for 124…..the Badgers totaled almost 650 yards to the Boilermakers 252…so this puts Wisconsin in firm control of their own destiny as far as the Leaders crown goes…they have only one divisional game left at Indiana on November 10 after a bye week…they still have home games vs Minnesota and MSU before then though so it is all about Bret Bielema right now in the Leaders..
Michigan-45   Illinois-0…..CORRECT…..This was the first shutout in this series in the last 20 years…Denard Robinson once again (against a lesser opponent) looked very solid…only throwing 11 passes and completing 7…running for 2 TD’s and throwing for 2 more…but the more impressive aspect of the game was the Wolverine defense…they held the Fighting Illini to just 134 yards of offense and just 13 yards after halftime…this is the best defensive team in the Big Ten right now…I know they have played two teams that have made them look probably better than they are…but UM has played lights out defense since their trip to South Bend a month ago….I’m just saying…
Ohio State-52   Indiana-49…..CORRECT…..wow did I get a lot of guff for predicting a 56-48 outcome in this one….if I had to vote right now for the MVP of the Big Ten..Braxton Miller would get my vote…he is single handedly (sorry Carlos Hyde…but where were you in September?) keeping the Buckeyes undefeated…had he not returned from getting hit out of bounds vs Indiana…I am not so sure the Bucks win that game…this is two straight upper echelon teams that the Hoosiers have put a scare into…I think the offense is on the right track…and they have done this without their #1 QB Tre Roberson….zoinks….I feel bad for the Middies next week.
