Bruce Campbell to come out early

Maryland offensive tackle Bruce Campbell has told the school he intends to come out early and enter the NFL draft. Campbell, a junior from Hamden, Conn., was one of the anchors of Maryland’s young offensive line this season along with senior center Phil Costa. Campbell’s season was shortened by injuries (knee, turf toe) and he often played hurt. “I felt like it was the right time for me to enter the draft,” Campbell said in a statement. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I feel like I’m ready to compete at the highest level.” Campbell’s size (6-foot-7, 310 pounds) and pass-protection skills make him an NFL prospect. Officials in Maryland’s football program knew there was a good chance he would forgo his senior season. Coaches said they would support him in whatever he decided.
