Well no good thing lasts forever and that includes no upsets taking place in the bottom 5. Since we went 2 weeks without one, it only makes sense to have two of them this week, with both teams (Kent State and Idaho moving out of the bottom 5. So here's the first look at the new bottom 5. Number 5 (NR) - Washington State Kitties - Making their debut into my bottom 5 with a season record of 1-7. The Kitties are coming off of their bye week after getting plastered by USC 69-0 2 weeks ago. They become, with Washington, not only the first combo state bottom 5 residents, but conference but conference bottom 5 buddies also. Next loss on Saturday to Stanford. Number 4 (NR) - Syracuse Fruits - At 1-7 with their only blemish coming on an outstanding win against D-2 Northeastern. So far this season they have been outscored by a total of 244-124 (35-18 average) and are 2-22 since the arrival of Greg Robinson from University of Texas. Next loss Saturday to Louisville. Number 3 (3) - Washington Muskies - Improved to 0-7 remaining only one of two winless schools after losing to Oregon State 34-13. Now things are set up nicely with Notre Dame and USC back to back in an effort to go winless for the season. Number 2 (4) - SMU ponies - Now at 1-8 I had to jump the ponies up to number 2 based on their showing against another lower tier team Navy by the score of 34-7. Most impressive item with this loss is the fact that Navy became the first team in 11 seasons to play a D-1 game without throwing a single pass. That's right folks 77 plays on offense by the naval academy and not a single pass. All to the tune of 404 yard rushing. Next loss in 2 weeks (due to bye) to Memphis. Number 1 (1) - North Texas State gang green - Gong Great at 0-8 the good just keep getting better here in Texas. NTS hosted Troy and gave a great gift in the form of a 44-17 loss to the men of Troy not from Southern California. Next loss to Western Kentucky. Dropping out were of course Idaho and Kent State.
