According to reports by sites covering the University of Miami athletics and the Palm Beach Post, redshirt freshman wide receiver Jontavious Carter has left the Miami Hurricane football program. Carter never actually took the field for the Hurricanes but did play in the spring.
He is the fourth player to leave the program in a week as Dyron Dye (involuntary), Jalen Grimble and Danny Dillard all left over the course of the past seven days. The departure leaves the Hurricanes with only seven scholarship wide receivers to which they added several walk-ons last week during the final week of training camp.
In his last media availability on Monday following the team’s second scrimmage, head coach Al Golden mentioned that depth at the wide receiver position was a major concern. He said it would receive a great amount of attention in recruiting going forward.
Now the Hurricanes have to hope their starting and second string wide outs stay healthy throughout the season.
