Clemson running back Mike Bellamy won’t be available for the Tigers next season. Bellamy has been ruled academically ineligible and won’t be in school for the fall.Dabo Swinney said Bellamy will enter a junior college this summer.
“We wish him well and hope he can back on track in the classroom,” said Swinney.
Bellamy wasn’t the Tigers’ number one back last season second to Andre Elllington who rushed for 1178 yards, but the 5 star Parade All-American did rush for 343 yards. This isn’t Bellamy’s first issue though as he has been suspended twice before and actually drew praise from Swinney this Spring.
“I am proud of the improvements Mike Bellamy made in the spring semester in a number of areas,” Swinney said. “We gave him the opportunity to return to school in January and to grow as a player and a person and by all accounts from his teammates and coaches, he was doing well.”
Between Sammy Watkins being arrested on drug charges, that terrible Orange Bowl that Clemson fans loved, and Dabo running his mouth about the ACC winning a title some day, Clemson will have an up hill battle going into 2012 and won’t be starting the season very well with Watkins out and Bellamy gone.Perhaps heading into college, Bellamy’s head wasn’t quite in the right place. Hopefully the potential star can get it together and head back to a D1 school.Clemson’d [photo via LBS]
