Colorado adds another intriguing transfer at wideout

The Colorado Buffaloes have added another intriguing player, former University of South Florida wideout Xavier Weaver, via the transfer portal.

Weaver announced the news via social media on Wednesday evening.

Weaver is coming off a solid junior year at USF, where he tallied career highs in receptions (53), receiving yards (718) and touchdowns (6).

After a slow start to his career at USF, registering 22 catches for 302 yards over his freshman and sophomore campaigns, Weaver emerged in 2021. That season, Weaver averaged 17.4 yards per catch, finishing with 41 receptions for 715 yards and two scores ahead of his breakout 2022 season.

Weaver is the latest Bull to jump to Colorado, following in the footsteps of former teammate and fellow wideout Jimmy Horn Jr.

Horn, coming off a terrific sophomore season, posting 37 catches for 551 yards and three touchdowns, transferred to Colorado in December.

Together at USF, Weaver and Horn were a dynamic pass-catching duo, combining to record 90 catches for 1,269 yards and nine touchdowns in 2022. Now reunited again, Buffaloes fans are undoubtedly eager to see what the pair can do under the "Prime Time" regime.

Weaver joins a list of impressive additions by Colorado, including former Jackson State standout defensive back and wideout Travis Hunter, and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of head coach Deion Sanders. The Buffaloes have also added talent from outside Sanders' previous stop, like former Arkansas safety Myles Slusher and tight end Seydou Traore, who transferred from Arkansas State.

After creating success with Jackson State, Sanders has an eye on doing the same with Colorado. Sanders has assembled a team that should give Colorado a great chance at posting a winning season for the first time since 2016. Recently, Sanders spoke about not settling for mediocrity, adding that the message to his players was, "You're going to get on this program, or you're going to get up out of here."

So far, Sanders is talking the talk and walking the walk. Now only time will tell if it all pays off.
