The Fighting Illini football team lacks depth in the defensive backfield. Fortunately, redshirt freshman Eaton Spence is coming along to back up senior starter Terry Hawthorne. The Floridian will learn from the senior and be ready for a starting role next year.

The Fighting Illini football program continues to add depth to its defensive line with the commitment of Detroit Cass Tech defensive tackle Kenton Gibbs. He is a powerfully built young man with quickness for his position. The fact the Illini have been turning out first round defensive line NFL draft choices was important to Gibbs.
The Fighting Illini are looking far and wide for speedy receivers who can stretch the field and pose problems for secondaries. One of those being considered for a scholarship is Indiana star Ja'Len Edwards. A strong relationship with his position coach and two visits to campus make the Illini a possible destination for the talented receiver.
The Fighting Illini continue to seek extra depth in the offensive line. Besides those who already have scholarship offers, there are a number of others who could impress enough for offers later this year. One of those is St. Louis lineman Myles McIntyre. He attended a Junior Day and left with a strong impression of the Illini and their coaching staff.
