Times are good in Starkville. The Mississippi St. Bulldogs are off to their best start since 1999, ranked 19th in the country, and most of it is thanks to head coach Dan Mullen. He oozes confidence and competitiveness, and it doesn’t stop on the football field. Mullen is also an amateur food eating champion.
Joey Chestnut may need to take notice of Starkvegas’ man of the hour. Mullen recently competed in wing-eating contest at a local Buffalo Wild Wings. He crushed 24 of them in 5 minutes. That equates to about one wing every 12.5 seconds.
Mullen spoke modestly about the triumph:
“It’s not really a Man vs. Food type challenge to where you get to the point of it being painful.”
I’ve always been curious about the heat index in these contests. Buffalo wings should be spicy. I hate mild wings.
And going back to Chestnut. He really has nothing to fear. He ate 191 wings in 12 minutes.
