Defender that left Tennessee Vols named as one of college football's most impactful 'super seniors' for 2024 season

A player that left the Tennessee Vols this offseason is expected to be one of college football's most impactful "super seniors" in 2024.

247Sports included Louisville Cardinals pass rusher Tyler Baron this week as one of their most impactful super seniors for the 2024 season.

Baron, who is from Knoxville, spent four seasons at Tennessee, totaling 13.5 sacks and 101 tackles. He initially transferred to Ole Miss this season before eventually landing at Louisville.

From 247Sports: Only two edge rushers ranked higher in the 2024 transfer cycle than Tyler Baron, who moves from Tennessee to Louisville this offseason and brings four full years of experience to the Cardinals’ defensive front. Baron earned ample playing time as a true freshman in 2020 and missed just one game since that debut season, and his most recent campaign was his best yet as he racked up a career-best six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.

Baron played a key role for the Vols the last couple of season and he likely would've again had he chosen to stay for the 2024 season.

But according to Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm, Baron transferred in part because he wants to exclusively play as an edge rusher in his final season of eligibility -- something that wasn't going to be an option for Baron at Tennessee.

"I think he wants to go somewhere and basically play that position and try to play that position solely if he can," said Brohm earlier this month. "I think he was moved around a little bit. Proving that he can be a great edge piece and rusher is what we want to try to help him do. So we're excited to get him here and you know he gives us a lot of experience."
