Lane Kiffin has a job to do at USC, and that’s to win football games. If that means doing something aimed at deceiving your opponent that is technically with the confines of the NCAA rules, Kiffin is open to it. For example, let’s look at his decision to have backup quarterback Cody Kessler change jerseys from No. 6 to No. 35 in the first half against Colorado. According to the L.A. Times, Kessler played on special teams in the first half wearing jersey No. 35, which is typically worn by punter Kyle Negrete. Kessler nearly ran the ball in for a two-point conversion on one play but a holding penalty brought it back. When asked if Kessler was wearing the number of a punter to try to fool Colorado, Kiffin said very little. “We change jerseys all the time with our guys,” he said on Tuesday. “We’ll change some more this week. The reason why Southern Cal should be under investigation for this, and should have been penalized during the game is due to the fact that they had two players wearing the same jersey. Not just the same number, the same jersey. It’s typical to see duplicate numbers on the field, and with teams having 100 players or more (including walk-ons), they pretty much have to. The only...
USC defensive tackle Leonard Williams drew a flagrant foul on Saturday after throwing a punch at a Colorado player. The Pac-12 did not pursue further punishment, leaving Williams to be available to play at Arizona.
Matt Barkley threw 20 passes against Washington and looked dreadful. He completed just 30 percent of his passes in the second half. Head coach Lane Kiffin talked about how any quarterback wouldn't be happy by throwing just 20 passes.
What a difference a week makes.
Barkley threw the same amount of passes against Colorado last week, 20, but he completed 19 of them. Six were...
