I think my favorite national statistic right now is defensive passer rating.  Georgia ranks fourth in that. The Dawgs are also fourth in the SEC in defensive passer rating.  That’s right – the four best teams in the country at shutting down opponents’ passing attacks (all four with ratings under 100) all play in the same conference.  And you wonder why there aren’t many good quarterbacks in the SEC this season. Anyway, LSU ranks third.  The Tigers are going to be a huge challenge for the second best passing attack in the conference.  Can Georgia cope? The comparison that’s already being made is with the one SEC team ranked higher in passing offense than Georgia. … The challenge for LSU is a wide array of receivers that are nearly a match for the Arkansas group, plus perhaps the best tight end in the SEC, Orson Charles, who has 40 receptions for 530 yards and five touchdowns. “They’re very talented and a very fast group,” LSU safety Brandon Taylor said. “A lot of people say Arkansas re

Georgia Bulldogs: No Respect I'll Tell You, Just No Respect At All

The BcS has spoken and they saw fit to drop Georgia from No. 13 to No. 14. I have two words for that drop, but I'm going to leave them in the "swear bin" I've created for such things because there is truly no benefit in going there at this point, particularly on a Sunday.  That said, the only two things I gave two flips about seeing this season are 1) Georgia...

Georgia defense looks to make mark against LSU

Sanders Commings wants everyone to take notice of Georgia's defense. If that means taking a shot at No. 1 LSU before Saturday's Southeastern Conference championship game, so be it. Commings stirred things up this week by boldly proclaiming that Georgia has a tougher D than LSU, saying ''we have better players, a better coach.'' The Tigers shrugged it off...

Dogs expect to have Crowell against LSU

Aaron Murray's four touchdown passes were enough for Georgia to beat Georgia Tech last week without much of a running game. The quarterback said Monday No. 12 Georgia will need more balance to have a chance against No. 1 LSU in Saturday's Southeastern Conference championship game. Georgia hopes to have freshman starting tailback Isaiah Crowell back this week. Crowell missed...

Georgia Bulldogs: What Was Jarvis Jones Supposed to Say?

It amuses me that so many people are calling Jarvis Jones' comments, made in a teleconference this afternoon, "bulletin board" material. Okay, let me back up a minute and presume you, the reader, have no idea what I'm talking about and are currently scurrying to open another tab and see what exactly was said and the context in which it was delivered. I'm...

Alabama Will Leave BCS with Crimson on Their Hands If Chosen For Title Shot

This guest post was submitted by Adam Cubbage  The year was 2007. The team was the University of Georgia Bulldogs. That year the Bulldogs, led by Matthew Stafford, Thomas Brown and a host of others, would have a finish to remember in Athens. They beat a Florida team ranked 9th in the nation (that year Georgia would beat 5 top-25 teams) and finished with a regular season record...

3 Questions Answered: Georgia Tech

Can the defense stand up to the big play threat? I'd say we did ok here.  We held them ~100 yards below their rushing average and well under their total yards per game average.  They only got off one long pass play and 7 or so runs of longer than 8 yards.  We held them to 4.6 yp rush, over a yard per rush below their season average.   Passing Play competence? 19-29-1 vs...

Perseverance pays: first SECCG week thoughts

I really, really like Groo’s take on what the winning streak means. … As Saturday wound down, this was the question on my mind: was South Carolina’s 16-13 loss to Auburn the most shocking SEC regular season outcome in 2011? The Tigers lost to Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Arkansas by a combined 170-45. None of those teams scored fewer than 38 points, none gave up more than 14...
