On December 27th, Tony Dungy spoke to the Wolverines. ”If you want to be successful in football and/or life, you need to be willing to do what others want to do or won’t do and that’s ‘Be Uncommon.’” Dungy told the team. Michigan is on pace to break the school’s single season record for highest third-down conversion percentage. The Wolverines have converted 79 of 154 third downs (51.3%), good for first in the Big Ten and sixth in the nation. The school record is 49.6% in 1986. Denard Robinson needs 86 yards to pass Pat White and become the NCAA’s career rushing leader among quarterbacks. Brendan Gibbons has made 11 straight field goals which is the second longest streak in school history (Remy Hamilton nailed 14 straight in 1996). Jordan Kovacs needs 6 tackles to move past Greg Morton and into 11th place on Michigan’s career tackles list. Kovacs was named the team MVP. Dennis Norfleet has 795 kick return yards this season. That is the second best single season in Michigan history. Roy Roundtree needs 2 receptions to move past David Terrell and into 6th place on Michigan’s career receptions list. With 6 receptions he will pass Steve Breaston and move into 5th place. Jake Ryan leads Michigan in total tackles (84), solo stops (53), TFLs (14.5) and forced fumbles (4). Ryan’s 4 forced fumbles ties him for the school’s single season record with Mike Taylor (1971), LaMarr Woodley (2006) and Shawn Crable (2007). Michigan ranks second in the country in pass defense (155.2 avg.). The Wolverines also rank 11th in total defense (311.2) and 16th in scoring defense (18.8). Michigan has held its opposition to less than 200 passing yards in all 12 games this season. The Wolverines have allowed fewer than 250 passing yards in 19 straight games. That is the longest such streak nationally. Two All-American’s will face off in the Outback Bowl when Michigan’s left tackle, Taylor Lewan, squares off against South Carolina defensive end Jedeveon Clowney. Craig Roh will make his school record 51st consecutive start in the Outback Bowl, breaking a tie with Jon Jansen. Redshirt junior Jeremy Gallon leads Michigan in receptions (34) and receiving yards (617). Freshman tight end Devin Funchess has a team-high 5 touchdown receptions. Brady Hoke is the first Michigan head coach to go undefeated at home in his first two seasons at U-M since Fielding Yost (1901-02). Michigan Football played the AP’s top three teams this season — No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Ohio State — all away from Michigan Stadium. Denard Robinson is Michigan’s all-time leader in touchdowns scored (91). Devin Gardner joined elite company with his performance vs. Iowa on Nov. 17. Gardner became only the sixth player since 2000 to throw for 300+ yards, pass for three touchdowns and rush for three scores in the same game. Collin Klein, Johnny Manziel, Keith Price, Dan Lefevour and Kellen Clemens are the only other players to accomplish the feat during that span.
