Following the end of the 2022 season, Florida International lost nine players due to the transfer portal, most notably wide receiver Tyrese Chambers and Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection, safety Demetrius Hill.

With possible wild cards who may or may not leave, there are some players who will most likely look to go elsewhere moving forward in their collegiate careers.

Although it is hard to predict who will offer what player a spot on their roster, it does make sense to look back and check out some of the possible fits for these players as well.

Kris Mitchell, Wide Receiver

Kris Mitchell joined T.Y. Hilton and Tyrese Chambers as the only two players in FIU to reach 1,000 yards, but Mitchell has a chance to surpass Chambers record of 1,074 yards and become the Panthers with the most receiving yards in a single season. Mitchell currently has 1,002 yards.

"I'm not thinking too much about transferring anywhere to any schools right now," said Mitchell when asked about the possibility to leaving FIU for a power five school. "My mindset is to go play in the NFL. That's my dream. The plan is to go play in the NFL. If I get word that not this year, there's a possibility that I come back here and play."

Mitchell would receive plenty of interest from power five schools, as he has added on roughly 10-18 pounds, but still hasn't gotten slower and can make big plays as we have seen this season.

Grayson James, Quarterback

After being named the starting quarterback this season, James was benched after one start in favor of true freshman Keyone Jenkins who has led the Panthers to four wins. James, who stands at 6'3", 235 pounds will surely receive interest at the G5 level.

The Texas native's best season was in 2022 where he threw for 1,969 yards and 11 touchdowns. When needed, James can also extend plays with his feet. This season especially, FIU has been dealing with a lot of dual-threat quarterbacks, although that isn't what James is, he certainly can certainly make plays through the ground game.

Antonio Patterson, Running Back

Patterson began his season second on the depth chart, but after Kejon Owens had a big night against North Texas, rushing for over 100 yards and scoring three touchdowns, Owens took over that spot on the depth chart. Since then, Patterson has yet to see many reps aside from garbage time reps.

Although he was recruited by FIU head coach Mike MacIntyre, there is a good chance he can look for a school that is in need of a feature back, where Patterson can see more reps than he currently is seeing with FIU.

Jamal Potts, Defensive Back

Standing at 6'2", 185 pounds, Jamal Potts has had himself a nice season with FIU. With 59 total tackles in 2023, Potts should receive some interest, especially with the positional flexibility that he provides.

Hezekiah Masses, Defensive Back

One of the top corners in Conference USA entering the season, Masses has totaled 41 tackles, one interception which he took back for a pick six. Masses is well known for his speed and usually is put up against the opposing teams top wide out.

The 2022 Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection should receive a lot of interest as he has two more years of eligibility, plus a possible third if he goes into grad school.

Jordan Guerad, Defensive Lineman

The 6'3", 295 pound redshirt sophomore has already matched his 2022 total tackles marker at 34 and already has a sack, something he hadn't done in his college career until this season.

Although Guerad didn't receive much interest when he was originally recruited, he has been added to multiple watchlist since arriving to FIU. Most notably, he was added to Phil Steele's Preseason All Conference USA Team and the Conference USA Preseason Watchlist.

Still with his junior and senior season ahead of him, the defensive lineman should receive a considerable amount of interest, but also has the chance to continue to be one of the more notable defensive lineman on the Panthers defense.

Keegan Davis, Linebacker

After making the position change from defensive lineman to linebacker, Davis has seen action in every game, but isn't on the FIU depth chart and has seen a major dip in his stats after looking back at his 2022 season.

When recruited, he was a two-way player. After verbally committing to Marshall, the Panthers swopped in to bring him in. It is unlikely he will receive the same amount of interest this time around, but putting his name in the portal is a good way to test the waters.
