Florida State’s freshman quarterback is a legitimate contender to win the Heisman Trophy
Ranked sixth in the country in both major polls, Florida State is 5-0 for a second straight season with perhaps its toughest test looming in less than two weeks at Clemson. The Seminoles are coming off of their most impressive victory of the season, a 63-0 victory over Maryland, thanks not only to a stellar defensive effort, but to a freshman quarterback that is turning heads from across the country.
At a media event prior to the season, Florida State freshman quarterback Jameis Winston made a joke about getting “Johnny Manziel Disease” referring to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel’s off-the-field antics this summer that got the reigning Heisman Trophy winner kicked out of the Manning camp, out of a University of Texas frat party and nearly ruled ineligible by the NCAA. Whi...

Through five games as a college quarterback Florida State's Jameis Winston has completed 73% of his passes, thrown for 1,441 yards, and tossed 17 TDs against only 2 picks. He had a career day in Tallahassee on Saturday, shredding a Maryland defense that was allowing 10 points per game for 393 yards and 5 TDs enroute to a 63-0 win.

Week 6 of college football is in the books, and the 2013 Heisman Watch is now closer than ever thanks to some standout performances this last weekend. Newsflash: the quarterbacks of 2013 are damn good. Here’s the new updated list:
5. Andy Murray, Georgia / Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M:
I couldn’t decide which one of these SEC quarterbacks should be my no. 5, but I did know they...
The honors keep piling up for Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and Miami tailback Duke Johnson.
Winston was named ACC rookie of the week for the third time on Monday. He completed 23 of 32 passes for a career-high 393 yards and career-high five touchdown passes in a 63-0 rout of Maryland.
And Winston was also named National Offensive Player of the Week by both the Walter...
A fifth very good football game couldn't be enough.
We couldn't allow Jameis Winston to shred No. 25 Maryland for 393 yards and five TDs on 23-of-32 passing, leading No. 8 Florida State to a 63-0 win, and slip into the rest of this Tallahassee afternoon free from our hungry hands of conjecture.
So, naturally, before three quarters were through, the projecting began.
October’s first college football weekend produced its share of wild — and sometimes controversial — finishes. But when the dust settled, there was very little movement in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll.
Alabama retained the No.1 spot after going through the motions in dispatching hopelessly overmatched Georgia State. But No.2 Oregon chipped a bit off the Crimson Tide’s...
Jameis Winston (QB-Florida State) - A new week, a new leader in the Race. In what had the makings of a solid Atlantic Coast Conference match-up, the battle between No. 8 Florida State and No. 25 Maryland turned into a cakewalk for Winston and the Seminoles. An incredibly impressive day on the field as the sophomore quarterback picked the
The ACC Digital Network has unveiled an old-school, 8-bit arcade-style video game promo featuring the Seminoles' Jameis Winston and Clemson’s Tajh Boyd.
The ACC hasn’t had a Heisman Trophy winner since Chris Weinke took home the hardware for the Florida State Seminoles back in 2000. But the league has a great chance – well, two great chances – at notching another before the BCS era is finished. FSU redshirt freshman Jameis Winston and Clemson senior Tajh Boyd have both had incredible seasons thus far.
To celebrate, and to...

Week 5 saw blowouts, close wins, and the craziest way to cover that I’ve ever seen. Let’s take a look at the college players of the week.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
Winston absolutely torched, I mean torched, Maryland on Saturday, to the tune of 393 yards and 5 touchdowns. The fact that he sat...
The 1st half and 2nd half were completely different games as the Seminoles destroyed the Terps 63 – 0. Maryland seemed to collapse after their QB was knocked out of the game in the 2nd quarter and Jameis Winston and the FSU offense took advantage in the 3rd quarter. FSU’s offense spent most of the first half shooting themselves in the foot to stop their drives but their defense...
It was a game the Seminoles knew they needed to have. With a week off to prepare for Clemson in front of them, Florida State proved they were the world beaters we all thought they could be, and it also proved Maryland was not ready to be considered a Top 25 team just yet.The 63-0 win was especially sweet when the freshman sensation Jameis Winston threw for 393 yards and five scores...
