Florida State wide receiver Johnny Wilson intends to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft and will not play in the Seminoles' upcoming Orange Bowl Game against Georgia, the player told ESPN. That decision comes days after the College Football Playoff selection committee declined to invite Florida State to the four-team national semifinal despite finishing as undefeated ACC champions this season.

Wilson was the Seminoles' leading wide receiver during the 2022 season, but he placed second on the team this fall, finishing with 617 receiving yards, behind transfer wide receiver Keon Coleman, who had 658 yards across the 2023 campaign.

Wilson finishes his collegiate football career with 102 receptions for 1,757 yards, and eight touchdown catches.

The decision to leave an undefeated Power Five conference champion out of the playoff was unprecedented until this year. Florida State, ranked No. 5 in the final poll, instead will play against No. 6 Georgia in Miami on Dec. 30.

Though he missed some time this season with an injury, Wilson's presence was crucial for the Seminoles' offense, one of college football's most productive when all its stars, including quarterback Jordan Travis, were healthy.

The 2024 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25 to 27 in Detroit, Mich. Before then, the 6-foot-7, 237-pound pass catcher will have a chance to prove himself to NFL scouts with a potential Senior Bowl appearance and the NFL Combine.
