Former Oklahoma Quarterback Enters Transfer Portal for Second Time

Evers’ career so far has been filled with unmet expectations, but he has three years of eligibility remaining as he enters the spring portal following a spring filled with practice in Madison, WI. He’s going to get yet another chance to get a fresh start and try and tap into the potential the former top-ten quarterback prospect once held.

Recapping Evers’ Sooners career

Again, Evers two years of college football have been defined by not panning out to what his potential was. He was the No. 8 quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class, ranked as the No. 137 overall prospect in the nation. That, along with joining a program like Oklahoma, comes with expectation.

The only time Evers got playing time during the 2022 season was against Texas, which ended up being a 49-0 Sooners loss in the deeply-rooted rivalry contest. That defined his time in Norman, and he eventually transferred to Wisconsin from the Sooners following his freshman season with the program.

Evers’ reason for leaving Wisconsin

Speaking with The Athletic on Sunday, Evers was able to reveal his decision to leave Madison and pursue a new program to represent for next fall.

“I needed to be realistic about my situation and ask myself the tough questions,” Evers told The Athletic on Sunday. “This is a unique time in college football, and while I don’t necessarily like the transfer portal, I know I can help a team win this fall. That being said, the toughest part of all of this is the relationships in that locker room. But fortunately, I know I’ll have many of these guys in my life forever.”

The former four-star product and Sooner, as mentioned, has three years of eligibility. He’s got the opportunity to go to a program he can showcase his ability this fall while either finding a home for a program or showing better programs his ability. The new era of the transfer portal gives Evers the possibility to reconstruct his image and build toward eventually joining a bigger program after gaining more experience and building a better reputation as a starting quarterback.
