It’s not a surprise to hear that Dayon Hayes has been a popular man since making the surprise announcement to leave Pitt and enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior from Westinghouse in Pittsburgh tells Pittsburgh Sports Now that his phone has been busy with teams interested in adding him to their 2024 roster. Hayes will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Since making his decision on Monday, Hayes tells PSN that the following schools have reached out to him: Penn State, Colorado, Virginia, Louisville, Washington, Duke, Central Florida, North Carolina, Missouri, Michigan State, USC, Colorado State, Minnesota, Indiana, Syracuse, Texas A&M and Baylor.

At this point, Hayes has not scheduled any official visits.

Hayes finished the 2023 season with 45 tackles (25 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble, four pass breakups and a lot of pressures, hurries and quarterback hits despite the relatively low sack totals. Hayes was better than his individual statistics indicated last season, but he will attempt to realize that full potential elsewhere.

He finishes his Pitt career with 81 tackles (45 solo), 26.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles and five pass breakups.
