Former Vols player is making the same mistake that Henry To'o To'o made after leaving Tennessee

When former Tennessee Vols linebacker Henry To'o To'o returned to Neyland Stadium in 2022, after transferring to Alabama, he made the mistake of talking trash to his former teammates.

"It's not personal, it's just business," said To'o To'o in a hype video the night before Alabama's game against Tennessee in 2022.

The Vols ended up beating Alabama for the first time since 2006 the next day. And To'o To'o's former Tennessee teammates made sure to remind him of his "it's just business" comments during and after the game.

Tennessee tight end Princeton Fant confirmed after the game that To'o To'o's comments served as motivation for the Vols.

Last winter, To'o To'o revealed to reporters that Tennessee's players were the best trash talkers he went up against in college.

“Definitely my guys at Tennessee,” said To'o To'o. “They can talk some trash. Them guys at Tennessee like talking trash.”

Former Vols offensive lineman Gerald Mincey, who transferred to Kentucky last month, was on the field for that game against Alabama in 2022. He played 38 snaps that night at left tackle. He knows exactly how To'o To'o's comments were received in Tennessee's locker room and how they were used as motivation.

And despite having that knowledge, Mincey has done nothing but talk trash to his former teammates after transferring to Kentucky.

"When we go there Nov. 2 to Neyland and we bust them in the mouth, we can put the standard back over here," said Mincey this week when asked about returning to Neyland Stadium next season.

The day after those comments, Mincey posted a video of current Vols offensive tackle John Campbell getting beat by an Alabama defender last season, a play that resulted in a strip sack fumble.

Mincey wrote "you suck" on the video.

Mincey clearly learned nothing from To'o To'o's mistake in 2022. All he's doing is giving Tennessee a reason to make the game against Kentucky next season personal. And that's the last thing Mincey should want to do. The former Vol should know that as well as anyone.

When November 2 rolls around next season, it'll be game on for the Volunteers.
