A former University of Wisconsin football outside linebacker and defensive end has found his new home in the transfer portal.

Redshirt junior TJ Bollers announced on social media that he had committed to Cal Berkeley, where he intends to finish his career as a defensive lineman. Bollers also had offers from Utah State, Ohio, Northern Iowa, Kent State, New Mexico, and Miami (OH).

The Iowa native, who spent three years with the Badgers, entered his name into the transfer portal after running with the Wisconsin football team’s second and third-team defensive lines during spring practice.

Bollers was a former four-star recruit in the 2021 class who struggled to find a fit on the Badgers’ defense, classifying as more of a tweener who was too big for outside linebacker and too small for defensive end. He’s since transitioned to the defensive line full-time, adding 18 pounds this offseason, and will have a fresh start playing for Cal.

Following a redshirt year in 2021, Bollers appeared in 11 games for the Wisconsin football program on special teams and at outside linebacker, recording two tackles in 28 total snaps, per Pro Football Focus. He then appeared in four more games on special teams during the 2023 season under head coach Luke Fickell.

Bollers will have two years of eligibility left. I’d like to join Badgers fans in wishing him well at his next stop.
