Coach Scott Frost says his Nebraska football team is eager for the season to start Saturday in against Northwestern in Ireland, where players will mix business with at least a little bit of pleasure.

Frost and several players spoke with the media Sunday, one day before leaving on the team’s rare overseas trip.

“We’ve been talking to our players a lot about handling this the right way and making sure it’s a business trip,” Frost said. “If we have enough work done and feel confident enough in what we’re doing going over there, the more we can just enjoy another country, the culture over there.”

As for adjusting to the time difference, he said the goal is for the team to get as much sleep as possible on the flight to Dublin and to be acclimated by Wednesday morning.

Frost called the 2022 Huskers “the most talented and deepest group we’ve had. We just need to play well.”

Other points from the coach:

  • He "might have exaggerated" the extent of the offensive line's vomiting in practice in remarks he made last week on his radio show. He said player safety is paramount and is monitored carefully.
  • Offensive coordinator Mark Whipple will call plays from the sideline.
  • Blackshirts will be handed out shortly after the team arrives in Ireland.
