Georgia Southern Adding Former Marshall OC Clint Trickett To Coaching Staff
© [FRANK FORTUNE/SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS] / USA TODAY NETWORK

After a pair of 6-7 seasons in his first two seasons as Georgia Southern head coach, Clay Helton is looking to bolster his coaching staff, as per reports, he’s set to bring on former Florida Atlantic and Marshall offensive coordinator Clint Trickett as inside receivers coach.

As first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, the former West Virginia and Florida State quarterback will be part of Helton's coaching staff with the Eagles.

The 32-year old Trickett is part of a coaching family, as he’s the son of longtime college assistant and current Jacksonville State offensive line coach Rick Trickett and younger brother of current Coastal Carolina offensive coordinator Travis Trickett.

The youngest Trickett began his coaching career in 2016 at the junior college level with East Mississippi State Community College, before serving under Lane Kiffin as tight ends coach and then Wille Taggart as offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic from 2017-2020.

He then joined Charles Huff’s staff at Marshall in 2021 as the receivers coach and passing game coordinator, before being promoted to offensive coordinator, where he’s served for the last two seasons – helping guide Thundering Herd running backs Khalan Laborn and Rasheen Ali to 1,000-yard seasons.

The addition of Trickett to Helton’s staff gives him an assistant with strong recruiting ties to North Florida and Georgia, while also providing an experienced coach at a key position for the Eagles as the inside receiver or slotback in Helton’s offense in Khaleb Hood has accounted for 188 receptions for 1,873 yards and eight touchdowns over the last two seasons.
