Greetings-
Notes from Monday’s practice. The news is that Daniel Drummond and Brandon Watts look like they’ll be able to go, but Jeremiah Attaochu is questionable.
1. Monday brought a positive progress report for the Georgia Tech defense.
At the defensive team meeting every Monday, coaches give players a score for the number of mental errors committed in the previous game. After a particularly high count two Saturdays prior against N.C. State, Tech had its season low Saturday, inside linebacker Julian Burnett said. He did not share the score.
“I guess you could say it was just us maturing in the defense as the season progresses,” he said. “But also, it just had a lot to do with everybody just putting it in their mind that we’re going to get it right this week. We’re not playing around.”
In the 21-16 win, the 12th-ranked Yellow Jackets had a season low in points allowed overall and had one of their better total defense efforts (333 yards) despite allowing a 77-yard touchdown

Georgia Tech not worried about predictions
Say what you want about Georgia Tech.
There's no but following that.
That's simply how Head Coach Paul Johnson feels about those who make predictions about his No. 12 Yellow Jackets (6-0, 3-2), who travel to Charlottesville, Va. (3-2, 0-1), this weekend to take on the Cavaliers of the University of Virginia. Kickoff is at 3:30 and will be televised on ESPNU.

Comparing Georgia Tech stats 2011 to 2010
Greetings-
Nothing earth-shattering that bears further comment from Monday’s practice. I thought, at the midpoint of the season, it’d be worthwhile to compare numbers with last year’s team. I think I’ll try to go on a per-play averages as much as possible. They say a lot more, I think, than per-game averages.
The numbers aren’t entirely apple to apple. The 2010 numbers...
A thought on Georgia Tech’s offensive progress
Greetings-
Hope you are well. Sorry I didn’t put up a post this morning. I’ll be going to practice in a little bit, but wanted to give you something to consider.
Here are the total defense ranks for Tech’s first three opponents:
Western Carolina (in FCS): 119 out of 120
Middle Tennessee State: 108 out of 120
Kansas: 120 out of 120 (yikes)
I guess we can finish it up: North...
Is Georgia Tech Even Grant Field’s Team?
Both Georgia and Georgia Tech fans will read Sippin’ on Purple’s post on how Michigan fans took over Ryan Field on Saturday night and find it immediately familiar. A college football program – one from a small-ish (by BCS conference standards), highly selective school whose graduates tend to migrate all over the country after graduation - has trouble selling tickets and thus...

Keep On Truckin'
Sifting through the remains of Georgia Tech's win Saturday over Maryland and then looking ahead . . . the Yellow Jackets are going to want to defend the run better, and that mission will begin at Virginia.Considering the fact that only one starter in the front seven - first-time starter and redshirt freshman inside linebacker Quayshawn Nealy - was recruited to play in a 3-4 defense...

Revenge of the Thirds
Third down is the put-up-or-shut-up play in an offensive series.Through six games, Georgia Tech is putting up at a 54.8 conversion rate on third down (34-for-62). That's better than anybody in the ACC and everybody in the nation except for Tennessee (60.3) and Wisconsin (55.2)."Offensively, we have been pretty good on third down all year," said Head Coach Paul Johnson...
