If we can step away from Bobofest ’11 for a minute, there’s an area of the team that deserves more scrutiny than it’s getting. Going into the season, Georgia’s special teams were expected to be a team strength.  Several pundits described them as the best in the nation – and why not?  Blair Walsh and Drew Butler had already received awards for their kicking prowess.  Brandon Boykin was an electrifying kick returner.  Branden Smith turned into one of the better punt returners in the conference.  And the coverage teams ranked in the top two or three in the SEC. Instead, 2011 brought a drop in performance on almost every front. PUNT RETURNS AVG TD 2010 UGA 10.62 0 OPP 5.13 0 2011 UGA 6.68 0 OPP 16.09 2 Branden Smith was Georgia’s leading returner last season.  His average yards per return was 14.3.  This season’s leading returner, Brandon Boykin, averaged 6.77 yards per return.  As for punt coverage, Georgia went from third to last in the SEC and was...

Georgia QB Murray in the holiday spirit

Think you're the bomb because you won the "Tackiest Christmas Sweater" contest at work this year? Too bad. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray just put everybody to shame with this get-up. Too-small tacky Christmas sweater? Check. Gold reindeer antlers? Check. Glazed look that definitely suggests non-Mark Richt approved beverages have been consumed? Double check. One...

The "Mark Richt to Texas A&M" meme will not die.

A story that should have vanished in a twinkling of the Twitterverse is starting to pick up some steam. The rumor that Texas A&M is going after Georgia head football coach Mark Richt is still persistent and is starting to garner serious attention. Even better, it names the person who would succeed Richt at UGA in the name of Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. ...

Dear Georgia Fans: Y’all Suck

It pains me to write this. It really does. I can remember waking up on Saturday’s after drinking way too much the night before, decking myself out in Bulldog red and making the treck to Sanford Stadium to hang out with 93,000 of my closest friends while we cheered our Dawgs on. There were no boos, no ******** and whining about winning games as we were in the midst of a revival...

Georgia Bulldogs: Is The Recent Criticism of Isaiah Crowell Fair?

Photo Credit: John Bazemore/AP I've been reading and following a lot of the commentary on Crowell over the last week or so and one theme seems to be rising from all the chatter with a great deal of momentum: he's soft and highly overrated. Some are even comparing him to Washaun Ealey (a player whom many felt sabotaged his career at Georgia by sporting an overwhelming sense...

Internet rumors are like assholes…

Couple of interesting tweets popped up last night: #UGA AD Greg McGarity on Mark Richt's involvement in Texas A&M opening: "No truth whatsoever." AD, coach in Tampa today for bowl function.— Marc Weiszer (@marcweiszer) December 09, 2011 #UGA AD Greg McGarity says no truth to Texas A&M talk re: Mark Richt. "Just a bunch of rumors flying around."...

Richt, UGA commence contract talks

With (laughable) rumors flying that Mark Richt is a candidate for Texas A&M as its next head coach, the current Georgia head coach is in the beginning stages of the renegotiation process. Funny how that works, eh? Anyway, UGA athletic director Greg McGarity confirmed to Gentry Estes of Dawgs247.com that he and Richt have commenced…

Keith Marshall Senior Highlights Video

Via AthleteVault.com.What's your reaction to these Keith Marshall highlights? I like the way the future Georgia Bulldog stutter steps to let the hole open before accelerating out. Also like that he runs with a nice lean forward. Not the biggest guy obviously, but he's got a tremendous toolset.PWD

Coaching Carousel: Texas A&M reportedly interested in Mark Richt

According to a report, Georgia coach Mark Richt’s name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the head coaching job at Texas A&M.
