PLAYERS: Everett GolsonAndrew Hendrix

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish enjoyed their trip to Dublin this past Saturday, and  the main reason why was the 50-10 rout they put on the Navy Midshipmen. There was a lot for a Notre Dame fan to enjoy watching the game, but some areas of the Irish attack deserve more recognition than others. For that reason, we here at FightingIrish101 offer these grades of the various personnel groups. There wasn't much to dislike, but that's to be expected when a team hangs half a hundred on their opponent.

Quarterbacks: B-

Sophomore Everett Golson took every meaningful snap, but Andrew Hendrix also saw action and completed four of his five attempts with no interceptions and 53 yards against a dejected Navy defense late in the game. Golson, for his part, looked comfortable behind center. While the threat of his running may have helped Notre Dame backs (more on them later) on shotgun runs, he was largely a non-entity in the ground game. He completed a number of long passes down the field and spread the ball around to 10 different targets, which is what we here were hoping to see

Notre Dame Drops 50 Points on Hapless Navy Midshipmen in Dublin

While most of the talk surrounding the Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the offseason was about suspensions, police trouble, injuries and the ever present quarterback controversy, the only thing anyone will be talking about over the coming week will be the physical manhandling the Irish gave the Navy Midshipmen in their season debut.  Notre Dame eschewed the spread offense that...

Notre Dame football demolishes Navy, 50-10

The Notre Dame football season couldn’t have started off any better than this. In a game played in Ireland where Navy was the home team (wait… what?), the Fighting Irish lived up to their name sake and played with all the ire of the Emerald Island. Notre dame took a page out of Navy’s play book and ran the ball down the Midshipmen’s throat mercilessly, attempt 46 rushes...

FightingIrish101's Week One Picks Against the Spread Evaluation

Last week we gave you some picks against the spread for week one, for fun and entertainment purposes only, of course. With the first week of the season now officially in the books, it is time to take a look at how our picks did. Nothing changes year to year more than college sports, and no sport depends as much on the collective opinion of what's going on more than college...

Notre Dame Radio Suspends Analyst Allen Pinkett

The Notre Dame IMG Radio Network has decided to suspend analyst Allen Pinkett for three games without pay for last week’s comments about his alma mater’s football program. Pinkett’s suspension began with last weekend’s game against Navy, and will include Saturday’s game against Purdue and the following game on Sept. 15 when the Irish face Michigan State. “Allen has...

Notre Dame may run to success under new QB Golson

Notre Dame fans may wonder if Everett Golson, who showed poise in his first start, has what it takes to be the starting quarterback this season. That question might not matter so much if the Irish keep dominating both sides of the line the way they did against Navy. In Saturday's 50-10 blowout in Dublin, Ireland, the redshirt freshman from South Carolina exceeded modest expectations...

Rapid Reaction: Notre Dame 50, Navy 10

Welcome new and old friends to Notre Dame Rapid Reaction - Navy Edition. For the uninitiated - I make a quick post-game summary with the assist of a "glance" over the box score. Players I noticed, changes that surprised us, and anything else noteworthy from the day's stats. I will continue to provide slightly more in-depth reviews & previews of the games...
