Hawaii Ends Season On High Note With 51-Yard Game-Winning Field Goal
© Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

Hawaii got to play spoiler for Colorado State's postseason hopes on Saturday.

The Bows picked up their fifth win of the season by a score of 27-24, preventing the Rams from earning their sixth.

Tied with 54 seconds left, Hawaii drove 41 yards in six plays - just enough to set up a game-winning field goal attempt. Barely getting the snap off with less than a second remaining, senior kicker/punter Matthew Shipley split the uprights from 51 yards out. Shipley had missed twice from beyond 40 yards earlier in the game, but redeemed himself with the winning make.

While the Bows did lose four games in a row during the month of October, they rallied to win three of their last four to finish the season 5-8. After a 3-10 season in 2022, Timmy Chang's first year, Hawaii have taken noticeable step forward.

Is a bowl berth an attainable 2024 goal in Honolulu? Time will tell.
