Braylon Heard is a 5’11” 185 lb. running back from Youngstown, Ohio. Coming out of high school, he was very highly recruited and wound up signing with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. After becoming unhappy with his lack of playing time, Heard decided he wanted a transfer, and Mark Stoops wanted him in Lexington. Stoops and Heard both share the same high school and hometown. Today, Heard has decided to transfer to Kentucky and join Stoops Troops. Heard rushed for 348 yards and 3 touchdowns last season, despite being third on the depth chart. He is leaving Nebraska as a sophomore, and will sit out the 2013 season due to transfer rules. He will have two years of eligibility left to play for the ‘Cats. Kentucky’s two leading rushers from last fall will both be seniors while Heard serves his 1-year hiatus. The starting spot will be potentially become Heard’s in 2014. For Mark Stoops to land a talent like Braylon Heard is unheard of before his arrival. Heard will be a major impact player for the ‘Cats when he is eligible. After announcing the transfer, Heard said he felt like he was in a really good place with Kentucky. The offense sets up the backs really well, and Kentucky has three good quarterbacks. And yes, he says you can’t beat playing in the SEC.
