Josh Newton Named Second Team Preseason AP All American
USA TODAY Sports

TCU cornerback Josh Newton earned perhaps his highest accolade Monday. The Associated Press (AP) named Newton to their second team All America unit, one of just four Big 12 players to grace the list. Newton stands alongside Notre Dame's Benjamin Morrison at cornerback.

Newton now adds All American to his already illustrious list of awards. The others include a first team All-Big 12 selection last season and preseason this year, and a 2023 Thorpe Award watch list distinction. He graded out as the top coverage defender on TCU last year, per PFF – even ahead of Thorpe Award winner Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson. Newton broke up seven passes and picked off three more in his junior campaign last season.

Other Big 12 players earning the All America distinction include Kansas State's Cooper Beebe (first team), Cincinnati's Dontay Corleone (first team), Texas' Kelvin Banks (second team), and West Virginia's Zach Frazier (second team). The Big Ten trumped the SEC for the most selections with 12 although Georgia landed four players on the first team alone.
