And just like that, LSU suffers their second loss of the spring transfer portal window. After losing rising sophomore edge Jaxon Howard earlier this week, wide receiver Khai Prean has elected to follow suit and will look for a new home ahead of the 2024 college football season.

LSU football suffers second spring transfer portal loss of 2024

As it would turn out, there may be such thing as too much depth at one position. Entering the 2024 offseason, one of the greatest strengths about the LSU football roster was their group of pass catchers.

With veteran wide receivers Kyren Lacy, Chris Hilton Jr, Aaron Anderson, CJ Daniels and Zavion Thomas all likely to be battling for snaps, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has no shortage of options to throw to.

Unfortunately, with that many potential impact players on roster, it’s almost a guarantee that other talent will be left out. Unfortunately, this was likely to be the case for speedy rising sophomore Khai Prean, eventually leading him towards the 2024 spring transfer portal today.

Rated as a consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2023, Prean recorded 61 receptions for 1,097 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior at St. James High School in Belle Rose, LA.

He was also a star on the track at the high school level, having recorded a 10.94-second 100-meter to go along with a 21.7-second 200-meter.

Standing at 6-foot, 202 pounds, he wasn’t exactly going to intimidate you physically, but his overall speed more than allowed him to compete. Still, with plenty of star power in last season’s pass catching room – including projected first round selections Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr – Prean ended up redshirting as a freshman and failed to see any game action with the purple and gold.

The Louisiana-based wide receiver has four years of eligibility remaining at the college level and has entered with a “no contact” tag, according to a report from Pete Nakos of On3.
