Late on Friday night, Notre Dame Fighting Irish star linebacker Manti Te’o broke his silence since his initial statement following the Deadspin investigative report on the shocking revelation that the backstory of his senior season was a hoax. Lennay Kekua was not a real person, therefore he never lost a girlfriend due to Leukemia on the same day that his grandmother died. Those following the story have been waiting to hear directly from Te’o since the story originally broke, to hear from him directly as to if he could clear up a lot of the information regarding his involvement in the hoax, and when he knew it was. Unfortunately, his sit down interview with Jeremey Schaap, which included no TV cameras, seems to have created more questions, specifically about the ever-changing timeline of what was known when. But one thing that Te’o did attempt to clarify is that he indeed was a victim of the hoax. When asked if he was a part of the hoax, Te’o, who was interviewed with an attorney present at IMG Sports Academy in Bradenton, Fla., responded, “I wasn’t faking it, I wasn’t part of this.” As for why Te’o never visited his dying girlfriend [...]
