Matt Rhule and Nebraska suffer second decommitment in four days

Kewan Lacy, the four-star running back from Lancaster, Texas, no longer wants to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Lacy announced his decommitment on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Dear Husker nation I want to thank you for the support and the opportunity to come play the sport I love at the University of Nebraska and thank you all the coaches for recruiting me and showing love with that being said I am decommitting and my recruitment is 100% open,” Lacy wrote.

For head coach Matt Rhule and the Huskers, this is a big loss. Lacy is ranked as the No. 30 running back recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite.  He had been committed to Nebraska since June of 2023.

While any decommitment is hard for a coach like Rhule, who is trying to build a strong base in Lincoln, it's worth noting that this is the second recruiting loss Nebraska has suffered this week.

Callen Barta, a three-star safety from Topeka, Kansas, flipped his commitment from Nebraska to Kansas State on Sunday after taking an official visit to the Wildcats.

With all this said, Rhule still has something special brewing with his 2024 class. With 25 hard commits to their name, the Huskers 2024 class is ranked No. 26 nationally
