Fitzgerald Toussaint

Michigan running back Fitz Toussaint has been suspended from the team indefinitely following his arrest for OWI on Saturday night. Toussaint, a redshirt junior, was Michigan’s leading rusher last season with 1,128 yards and 10 TDs.

“Fitz made a poor decision and has been suspended indefinitely because of that action,” Brady Hoke said in a statement released Monday afternoon. “There are expectations that come with being a football student-athlete at the University of Michigan and those responsibilities were not met in this instance. We will use this as an opportunity to educate Fitz and make sure he understands the high standards that we have established within our program.”

Toussaint’s emergence during the second half of the season was a revelation and it took a considerable load off of Denard Robinson’s shoulders.

Toussaint was expected to be the Wolverines starting running back when the 2012 season kicks off on September 1st. If he does not return in time for the start of the season it will mean there is a great opportunity for another back. Below is a list of the other runing backs on Michigan’s roster as the head into fall practice on August 6th.

Vincent Smith (Sr)
Stephen Hopkins (Jr)
Thomas Rawls (So)
Justice Hayes (RS Fr)
Drake Johnson (Fr)
Dennis Norfleet (Fr)

Frank Clark at the Sugar Bowl

Sophomore defensive end Frank Clark has also been suspended, after being charged with second-degree home invasion. Clark has a preliminary hearing on the charges August 2nd.

“We are aware of the case regarding football student-athlete Frank Clark,” Hoke said in a statement. “This is a serious accusation and we will follow the lead of the judicial system. Frank was and will continue to be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.”

Clark was set to challenge fellow sophomore Brennen Beyer for the starting rush end positon. Clark showcased his potential in Michigan’s Sugar Bowl victory with a career-high 5 tackles and one fabulous interception.
