In what should come as no surprise, the Michigan Wolverines 2013 recruiting class checks in at #1 on ESPNs initial rankings. Brady Hoke and his staff have reeled in 21 commits, including 11 members of the ESPNU 150. Rivals.com and scout.com also rank Michigan’s class #1 nationally.

The headliner/pied piper of the class is quarterback Shane Morris (Warren, Michigan). The elite QB has been one of Michigan’s best recruiters and he is seemingly omnipresent. He’s been all over the country competing against the best of the best in various camps and has earned an Elite 11 invite in the process. He has played a pivotal role in drawing some of his fellow 2013 recruits to Michigan. He’s also working on other uncommitted prospects like WR LaQuon Treadwell (Crete, Illinois), S Leon McQuay III (Seffner, Florida), and RB Derrick Green (Richmond, Virginia) trying to convince them to climb on board the Maize and Blue recruiting express.

Michigan has commitments from 3 of the top 5 offensive guard recruits in the country; #1 David Dawson (Detroit, Michigan), #4 Patrick Kugler (Wexford, Pennsylvania), and #5 Kyle Bosch (Wheaton, Illinois). They also have commitments from 2 of the top 10 offensive tackle recruits in the country; #9 Logan Tuley-Tillman (Peoria, Illlinois) and #10 Chris Fox (Parker, Colorado). The Wolverines also have a commitment the #5 ranked tight end prospect, Jake Butt (Pickerington, Ohio), the #1 ranked fullback, Wyatt Shallman (Novi, Michigan) and the #6 ranked tight end/h-back Khalid Hill (Detroit, Michigan). Heck, they even went out and snagged the #2 ranked long snapper in the country last week in Scott Sypniewski.

Greg Mattison and Taco Charlton

Michigan has commitments from three defensive backs and all 3 of them are ranked in the top 100; #64 Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio), #92 Jourdan Lewis (Detroit, Michigan) and #98 Dymonte Thomas (Alliance, Ohio).

Linebacker Mike McCray II (Trotwood, Ohio) is ranked as the #9 outside linebacker and 104th overall by ESPN. Taco Charlton (Pickerington, Ohio) is ranked as the #10 defensive end and #114 overall by ESPN.

Michigan also has 6 commitments who have received invites to The Opening; Shane Morris, Mike McCray II, Taco Charlton, David Dawson, Jourdan Lewis and Jake Butt.

The Opening presented by Nike Football is four days of dynamic training, coaching and competition for many of the country’s most elite high school football players. Every position and every aspect of the game will be highlighted over the course of the four-day program. Last year’s event saw NFL stars like Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Ndamukong Suh, Patrick Peterson, Ray Rice and Dwayne Bowe coach participants in a variety of drills and competitions. This year’s event will be July 5-8.

In short, Michigan is absolutely dominating on the recruiting trail and the force with which they are doing so has to be disconcerting to the rest of the Big Ten.
