PLAYERS: Brady Hoke
Malik McDowell (Photo by Todd White/isportsweb) Michigan Football recruiting target, Malik McDowell (Detroit, Michigan), provided some insight on what he is thinking when he checked in at the Rivals 100 Five-Star Challenge this week. The 6-foot-6, 290 pound McDowell is rated as the #3 defensive end in the country and #23 overall by rivals. He told the folks at rivals that he was planning on visiting Florida, Florida State and USC. His top four schools are Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State. When asked if he had a leader, McDowell said, ”It’s Michigan, probably, that’s home.” McDowell possesses elite, size, strength and athleticism. He is a an explosive athlete ad has dominated the competition at the high school level. There are reports circulating on the internet that McDowell will transfer from Loyola High School to Southfield High School for his senior season. If that happens he will play on the same defensive line as Michigan commit Lawrence Marshall. As a junior, McDowell notched 70 tackles and 15 sacks. In addition to his lofty rankings on rivals, McDowell is ranked the #5 defensive end and #33 overall by scout and the #6 defensive end and #69 overall by espn. The fact that he hails from the state of Michigan and has explosive athletic ability combined with tremendous physical attributes makes him one of Brady Hoke’s most coveted recruits in the 2014 class. When it’s all said and done, I think there is a really good chance he will play his college football for the Wolverines.
