Regardless of which major national top 25 poll you prefer to use as your standard for ranking the best of the college football elite (AP Top 25 or USA Today Coaches), this week the Michigan Wolverines will not be found.

That not just due to the fact that the Wolverines lost their second game of the year and now own a 2-2 non-conference record. But more so because as a team they managed only two field goals Saturday night in South Bend, Indiana and committed six turnovers in the 13-6 loss to Brian Kelly’s now 4-0 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Last week, Michigan was ranked 18th in the AP poll and 17th in the USA Today poll.

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson played his “worst game” of his career as a Wolverine and stated as much post-loss, throwing four interceptions — all in the 2nd quarter — and losing a fumble to the Irish in the third.

His performance was unfortunate because as a group the Wolverines held the advantage in time of possession and total yards and the Michigan defense created their first two take-always of the season with two interceptions.

The first interception came on Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson’s first pass attempt of the game.  Unfortunately Michigan was unable to capitalize on the gift and ended their subsequent drive with a missed 43-yard field goal.

It took the Wolverines three quarters before they managed to get on the board with a Brendan Gibbons 33-yard field goal to start the forth.

Michigan now has two weeks off before they begin Big Ten play on the road against Purdue.

Notre Dame 13, Michigan 6: Irish defense keeps Robinson under wraps

In a break from recent tradition of four point losses and wild, offensive shootouts against the Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame improved to 4-0 by riding its defense, forcing Denard Robinson to make mistakes and scraping together a 13-6 win on Saturday night. Denard Robinson, Michigan fall out of the AP Top 25

The Michigan Wolverines were ranked No. 8 in the Top 25 poll coming into the season. After Week 4, the Wolverines have already watched their names fall completely out of the Top 25 rankings. It probably adds to the discomfort that Michigan State sits ahead of Michigan in the Legends division and at No.20 in the AP Poll with Ohio State six spots ahead at No.14. Whether or not...
