The improvements made this season by Rutgers football have not come over night. Since Greg Schiano returned as head coach in December 2019, it’s been a slow and steady build up for the program. This season, we have witnessed the positive results come from years of hard work.

The strength and conditioning program led by Jay Butler has been a major factor. Rutgers physically matches up with every Big Ten opponent in a way that wasn’t the case in the past. It has really helped the Scarlet Knights compete at a higher level this fall.

In addition, the mentality of the program has changed for the better in Schiano’s fourth season. Rutgers isn’t just winning the games they should, they’re doing so by a wide margin.

Player development, learning how to win and making plays when they’re needed most has been key to the 6-2 start and becoming bowl eligible before Halloween.

Rutgers great Mike Teel returns to The Scarlet Faithful podcast to discuss the progress made by Rutgers football so far this season. Topics include this team establishing an identity, the importance of making a bowl game, the improvement with the offensive line, the coaching impact, Kyle Monangai and Gavin Wimsatt’s development, and more. In addition, a discussion on what Teel’s expectations are for all three phases the remainder of this season.

Thanks to Mike Teel for giving his insightful takes on Rutgers football once again. Listen and watch this episode below.
