It wasn’t that he was so thrilled to renew acquaintances with the press corps. No, Dan Mullen was jogging to the interview area for another and better reason. Preseason practices had just begun for Mississippi State. So, “We’re excited to be back to work,” Mullen said.

Mississippi State wrapped up day-two of preseason camp with the second practice of the day. This time it was the second and third teams participating, after the starters and newcomers or reserves went at it in the morning session. And the script ran exactly the same, right down to the number of snaps in drills as well as seven- and eleven-man competition.
Aeris Williams made the decision to announce his college intentions earlier today. Williams narrowed his field of suitors to Florida State, Mississippi State and Wisconsin. After careful deliberation and the advice of family, Williams has decided to take his talents to Starkville and join the Bulldogs of Mississippi State for his college career.
Mississippi State put in a second day of split-squad practices, but unlike Friday’s similar schedule the personnel was largely different. Coach Dan Mullen had the current number ones on offense and defense again in the morning, this time though joined by most of the second teams.
Friday came early for half the Bulldog squad, as they reported for the first of the two practices Coach Dan Mullen scheduled for the second day of preseason camp. Still those who drew the morning shift made the most of it, especially the offensive side.
The first day of preseason practicing is also the first chance to check on any potential changes to Mississippi State’s post-spring lineups. And, maybe of more interest, to see where the newest Bulldogs are taking their first snaps.
