National radio host rips into South Carolina HC Shane Beamer

University of South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer admitted to reporters on Tuesday that he broke his foot after kicking something in the locker room in a moment of frustration following the Gamecocks’ 41-39 loss to the Florida Gators on Saturday.

And while Beamer tried to laugh at the absurdity of the situation, ESPN Radio’s Paul Finebaum didn’t find any humor in the matter.

“I mean, this guy was laughing about it, cajoling, thinking it was like a high school frat prank,” Finebaum said, via On3. “This is a head football coach at a major SEC school and he breaks his foot in frustration. If he had shown half that effort in trying to stop Florida from blowing them to pieces at the end of that game, I think maybe the season wouldn’t be on the brink of going straight down the toilet. That was really incredible.”

Finebaum was referring to South Carolina’s squandering of a 10-point lead with 9:11 left in the game.

Florida scored two touchdowns in a little over four minutes to edge out the win. The Gamecock defense couldn’t stop the Gators in the final half of the fourth quarter, surrendering a 14-play, 75-yard drive and a nine-play, 75-yard drive on back-to-back possessions.

Trailing by four points with 47 seconds left, Spencer Rattler was intercepted on the third play of SC’s final drive, halting any hope of a comeback.

South Carolina is 2-4 this season and 17-15 in Beamer’s two-plus seasons.
