Maxwell Award Player of the Week: Jameis Winston (QB, Florida State) Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week- Loucheiz Purifoy (CB, Florida) Maxwell Award: What we noticed Missouri QB James Franklin continued his rebound season with a huge performance against Vanderbilt to keep the Tigers undefeated. Franklin collected 341 total yards and four passing touchdowns, marking his fourth multi-touchdown game of the year. He’ll look to upset Georgia next weekend in hopes of shooting up the rankings and being recognized as a threat for the SEC title. On the road at a packed Carrier Dome, Clemson QB Tajh Boyd broke down the Syracuse defense in a 49-14 blowout. Boyd completed 20 of his 27 passes for a career-high 455 passing yards and five touchdowns. Thanks to Boyd’s leadership, Clemson stands at 5-0. In a well-fought game against Northwestern, Ohio State RB Carlos Hyde shined with 168 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while adding four catches for 38 more yards. This was Hyde’s third game back from suspension and his first rushing touchdowns on the season. With Hyde’s playmaking skills, the Buckeyes look confident with a 6-0 record. Chuck Bednarik Award: What we noticed Against Vanderbilt, Missouri DE Michael Sam remained disruptive with his second straight game of three sacks. Sam now has 10 tackles for loss on the season, and his efforts have recently placed him on the expanded Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List. Auburn DE Carl Lawson did not look like a freshman against Ole Miss, totaling six total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and a quarterback hurry. He was able to disturb Bo Wallace enough to help Auburn complete the 30-22 upset. Notre Dame LB Prince Shembo came up big against Arizona State with seven tackles, three of which were sacks for 25 yards. Although Shembo had eight quarterback hurries entering the game, these were Shembo’s first sacks of the season. Maxwell Award: Matchups to watch this week  Ka’Deem Carey (RB, Arizona) vs. USC Although USC has struggled, its defense has yet to let a running back rush for over 100 yards. In Carey’s three games this season, he’s run for 431 yards (143.6 rushing yards per game) and five touchdowns. Aaron Murray (QB, Georgia) vs. Missouri Missouri enters the game with a 5-0 record while Georgia stands at 4-1. With RB Todd Gurley out, Murray will have more responsibility on his shoulders to even the score against the hottest SEC opponent. Jeremy Hill (RB, LSU) vs. Florida The recently added Watch List candidate will face his toughest challenge against the second ranked defense in the nation. While Hill is averaging 7.5 yards per carry with nine touchdowns, the Gators only allow 65 rushing yards per game. The battle on the lines will determine this game. Chuck Bednarik Award: Matchups to watch this week  Kyle Fuller (CB, Virginia Tech) vs. Pittsburgh The senior corner will have his hands full against receivers Devin Street and Tyler Boyd who have amassed for five total games of 100 yards or more. Fuller has been exceptional with 21 total tackles, seven passes broken up, and two interceptions and is up for the challenge. Jackson Jeffcoat (DE, Texas) vs. Oklahoma Last season against Oklahoma, Jeffcoat sustained an injury that put him out for the rest of the season. But now the 6-5 senior is healthy, and has managed three sacks in his past two games, and will look to keep the pressure going against the “Bulldozer,” Blake Bell. Chris Borland (LB, Wisconsin) vs. Northwestern In order to stop this high-pace and effective Northwestern offense, the Badgers will need another significant game from their defensive leader Borland. If the playmaker can disrupt and contain the backfield, Wisconsin will be in great position for an upset. -Schotz
