Nebraska football projected to land new 2025 RB target

Nebraska football fans have to be excited about some of the recent developments on the recruiting trail. Whether it’s five-star Michael Terry talking about his visit and saying, “Matt Rhule isn’t playing fair” (in a positive way) or five-star offensive tackle David Sanders taking an official visit this weekend, the momentum is real.

The Huskers have gotten results too. Nebraska football landed four commitments in April. They are also trending as the favorite for another with four-star quarterback TJ Lateef. He’s ranked in the top 300 overall and is a top-20 quarterback.

Steve Wiltfong and a bunch of Nebraska football reporters have projected Lateef to be N and a 2025 running back could be joining him.

Nebraska football has one running back commitment in 2025 from Conor Booth, but the Huskers didn’t take any in 2024 and just one in 2023, so the position could use a replenishment.

A new running back target projected to Nebraska

Jamarion Parker is a four-star running back with two crystal balls projecting him to Nebraska. But Alabama has gotten involved and TCU is getting an official visit in June along with the Huskers.

Another name to know is Mekhi Nelson. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound back is out of Oakdale, Connecticut. He’s not ranked in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class and Nebraska football was his first power-5 offer.

Yet, E.J. Barthel, the Huskers running backs coach, has known Nelson for a long time. So I trust the offer and have long said I trust the Nebraska football coaches more than I do the recruiting analysts. Matt Rhule’s staff has proven to be right on when it comes to their evals so I’m not worried at all about the offer.

The offer is a big deal and Nelson told Bryan Munson of Husker Online he’s excited to visit. The competition in the Northeast isn’t as strong but Nelson was a force on the field carrying the ball 212 times for 1,824 yards, averaging 8.6 yards per carry, and scoring 25 touchdowns.

Nelson is a threat in the passing game too. His highlights from last season show him catching multiple passes down the field, in addition to being productive on screens.

Nelson hasn’t visited Nebraska football yet. It feels like just a matter of time. Munson felt good enough to log an expert projection for the Huskers who now have a 99 percent chance of winning Nelson’s commitment according to the On3 prediction machine.
