New name emerges in Alabama football OC search: insider

After the bombshell decision on the part of apparent incoming Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to suddenly leave the program just weeks after he was set to officially take the job, Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer appears to have a replacement lined up for the 2024 football season.

Alabama is set to promote Washington tight ends coach Nick Sheridan to the offensive coordinator position going forward, according to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Sheridan originally played quarterback for Michigan, starting four games in the 2008 season after walking on to the Wolverines roster. 

He began his coaching career at Saline (Mich.) High School and from there landed at WKU, USF, and Tennessee, where he was a graduate assistant from 2014-16.

Sheridan has served a variety of offensive roles in his coaching career, including passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. 

He was offensive coordinator for Indiana in 2020-21 and called plays for then-Hoosiers quarterback Michael Penix, Jr.

DeBoer served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Indiana in 2019 when Sheridan was on the football staff.

After IU's offense took a step backwards in 2021, Sheridan was one of the coaches the program fired in the following offseason. From there, he accepted the tight ends coaching role with Washington under DeBoer.
