New Oregon Duck Cornerback’s Stellar Performance in His First Spring Camp Earns High Praise From His Defensive Coordinator

When Washington star cornerback Jabbar Muhammad decided to enter the transfer portal this winter, many people were very shocked because he played a significant role on a Huskies team that went all the way to the National Championship game.

Washington Lost Their Head Coach To Alabama

Washington saw their head coach Kalen DeBoer take the Alabama head coaching job when Nick Saban retired, so Muhammad was rumored to land with the Crimson Tide. However, he decided to move down North and play for Washington’s most prominent rival, the Oregon Ducks.

Muhammad Transferd To Oregon In A Shocking Move

Muhammad started his college career in 2019 when he played at Oklahoma State for three seasons before heading to Washington. His first season in Seattle was special, recording three interceptions and being named to the All-Pac-12 second team.

It’s no secret that Muhammad is a great football player. Oregon saw him twice last season on the opposite side of the field, but this time, they took a great look at him for his first spring as a Duck, and their defensive coordinator, Chris Hampton, had a lot to say about his new cornerback.

Chris Hampton Had Nothing But Love For His New Corner

Hampton stated, “He’s really, really competitive. He’s got great ball skills, elite transitions, and a change of direction. He’s a competitor at the end of the day.”

Hampton knows something about the cornerback position since he serves as the Duck’s defensive back coach and has had his share of great players.

The Ducks Are Going To Have To Adjust To A Difficult Big Ten

Muhammad has a chance to come in and set the tone for the new Ducks defense that will be playing in the Big Ten next season, where you have to play defense to win games. The Big Ten is known for teams playing tough defensive football like Iowa, and we just saw Michigan win the title last year by playing the best defense in the country.
