David DeCastro is a real OG, at least in the sense that he plays offensive guard. While Andrew Luck has been getting all of the accolades for the Cardinals, and even offensive tackle Jonathan Martin getting some love, DeCastro has been often overlooked. But those in the know have been saying all year that he may have been just as valuable to Stanford's success as Mr. Luck himself. It is tough for interior linemen to get the respect they deserve, as their stats quite literally do not show up in the box score, and it is hard to understand the true value of a mauler on the inside of the line. Even centers get more love than the much-maligned guard. Coming out of high school, he was a lowly three-star recruit and he did not even rank among the top ten centers in the nation. DeCastro was in fact the man hiking the ball when he played at Bellevue High in Washington. But he made his way down the coast to Stanford, and after redshirting his first year, he has emerged to become a do...

Owens leads Stanford back to the cusp of the top-25

When Josh Owens' career was halted by a sudden undisclosed medical condition, he tapped into his desire for adventure and education to help carry him not only through his obstacle, but straight to the top. Now that he has worked through his own personal obstacles, he is helping Stanford make a comeback of its own. Owens is currently Stanford's leading scorer, averaging...

Luck or Griffin III: Predictions On Who Should Be The Number One Draft Pick?

Well its official, college football is nearly done for the season but the talk of it is far from done. The 2012 Draft is not all that far in the distance. In fact its only 4 months away. Its quite a safe prediction to assume that the talk will be non stop between now and then, and not a single day will pass that different ideas wont be thrown around like a writer who is brainstorming...

Andrew Luck Repeatedly Mentions How Good His Neck Feels During Post Game Interview

GLENDALE, AZ—Stanford quarterback and projected No. 1 NFL draft pick Andrew Luck spent the majority of his post–Fiesta Bowl interview Tuesday night discussing the superb health and dexterity of his neck.

Owens is back, and so is his Stanford team

Josh Owens' collegiate basketball career at Stanford was halted before the 2009-10 season by a sudden undisclosed medical condition. But he tapped into his desire for new experiences to help carry him through, and he's now helping his Cardinal team make a comeback of its own. Owens, a senior, is currently Stanford's leading scorer, averaging 12.4 points and 5.9 rebounds...

Former Mariner Jack Wilson better at kicking than Stanford, Virginia Tech

My heart still aches for Jordan Williamson, the Stanford kicker who missed what would have been a game-winning 35-yard field goal – then, given a second chance, missed a 43-yarder in overtime. Oklahoma State capitalized and won the Fiesta Bowl on Monday. As if that weren’t enough to convince you of the importance of kickers, [...]

Tiger Woods! In action in 2012! Sort of!

Tiger Woods was back on the field of competition, but like so much of his recent past, it didn't quite go like he'd hoped. Woods was the honorary captain for his Stanford Cardinal in the Fiesta Bowl. (In a golfy turn of events, none other than Rickie Fowler honorary-captained Oklahoma State, and Michelle Wie cheered on Stanford as well.) And perhaps because Woods didn&...

Pair of Stanford linemen also declaring for the draft

Add two more underclassmen to the growing list of those who will declare for the NFL Draft. Just a day after a crushing defeat to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, a pair of top lineman prospects decided to leave early. Stanford offensive linemen Jonathan Martin (pictured, left) and David DeCastro announced their intentions to leave…

Changing Needs

Ugh. That was not a fun ending to a bowl game…even if you weren’t particularly pulling for one of the teams. Plus, now Oklahoma State will really be complaining about not being in the championship game. Not that I disagree with them. I just don’t think I can take that squabbling AND this Republican Iowa Caucus stuff at the same time.
