NFL Draft: Sources Reveal Quarterbacks Who are Rising, Falling
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Draft kicks off at 8 p.m. Thursday, and in the final moments before the first selection is made, there is a feeling inside the league that one of the top quarterback prospects is higher on boards than the media and the public believe and another might not be as highly regarded.

Michael Penix Jr. Rising, Bo Nix Falling Ahead of NFL Draft?

Multiple league sources suggest that University of Washington quarterback Michael Penix could go off the board far quicker than people have been anticipating, perhaps as high as the first 12 picks.

Penix, 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 4,903 yards with 36 touchdowns to 11 interceptions while leading the Huskies to an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Meanwhile, there is a strong feeling that Oregon’s Bo Nix falls out of the first round.

Nix passed for 4,508 yards with 45 touchdowns to three interceptions in his second season in Eugene Oregon, and fifth collegiate season.

This draft class is led by USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jaylen Daniels, UNC’s Drake Maye, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy at the top of the board. But, it doesn’t sound like Penix is far behind that group in the eyes of evaluators in front offices across the NFL.

The Chicago Bears kick off the NFL Draft with the No. 1 overall pick, in Detroit, at 8 p.m. Eastern.
