NFL mock draft roundup: Are the first four picks a lock?

From now until the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25 in Detroit, the "experts" will release mock drafts on an almost weekly basis.

This is your one-stop shop for the latest predictions including the top-five picks, players rising and falling, surprise selections and potential trades.

The experts highlighted this week are CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli, Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman and NFL.com's Charles Davis.

Pick No. 1 (Chicago Bears)

Fornelli, Wasserman, Davis: USC QB Caleb Williams

Many, like Fornelli, believe it's "a foregone conclusion" that Williams will be the first to hear his name called and for good reason. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions from 2022-23.

Pick No. 2 (Washington Commanders)

Fornelli, Wasserman, Davis: LSU QB Jayden Daniels

The debate for who the second quarterback off the board is ongoing, but this week, the experts unanimously believe it will be Daniels. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner has a strong case, too, after throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023.

Pick No. 3 (New England Patriots)

Fornelli, Wasserman, Davis: UNC QB Drake Maye

All three experts agree once again that Maye will be the next player off the board. Some have argued that the Patriots could add a skill player here, but after trading QB Mac Jones to the Jaguars on Sunday, it'd be surprising if the remaining of the top three quarterbacks wasn't selected here. Maye has thrown for 7,929 yards, 62 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in the past two years.

Pick No. 4 (Arizona Cardinals)

Fornelli, Wasserman, Davis: Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

Four-for-four it is. This is the ideal scenario for the Cardinals, who are in desperate need of adding to QB Kyler Murray's arsenal. Harrison Jr. would be the true No. 1 wide receiver Arizona has been missing, posting 144 catches for 2,474 yards and 28 touchdowns from 2022-23.

Pick No. 5 (Los Angeles Chargers)

Fornelli: Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy (traded to Minnesota Vikings)

If the Vikings move on from Kirk Cousins in free agency, it would not be a surprise if they try to move up to land their next franchise quarterback. McCarthy's draft stock has been rising ever since he led the Wolverines to a national championship and now many, like Fornelli, believe he could sneak into the top five. McCarthy threw for 5,710 yards, 44 touchdowns and just nine interceptions from 2022-23.

Wasserman: LSU WR Malik Nabers

If the Chargers want to make the pick, however, Wasserman thinks they will add to QB Justin Herbert's arsenal. Nabers may be the next-best wide receiver in the draft, having posted 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023.

Davis: Washington WR Rome Odunze

However, others, like Davis, believe the second-best wide receiver is Odunze, who has 167 catches for 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns from 2022-23.

Players on the rise

Fornelli: Georgia OT Amarius Mims (No. 7 to Tennessee Titans)

The massive 6-foot-8, 340-pound offensive tackle seems to be rising up draft boards after putting on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine. Fornelli describes Mims as "a giant man who moves like a ballerina," and if teams agree, he could very well be a top-10 pick. Mims allowed only one pressure and zero sacks in more than 150 pass-blocking plays in 2023.

Players falling

Fornelli, Wasserman: Georgia TE Brock Bowers (No. 18 to Cincinnati Bengals)

Davis: Georgia TE Brock Bowers (No. 21 to Miami Dolphins)

Bowers currently ranks as PFF's best tight end and the No. 5 overall prospect on its big board after posting 175 catches for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns in three years at Georgia. However, other positions seem to be valued more, which could cause him to fall into the lap of a very grateful team.

Surprise picks

Fornelli: Notre Dame OT Joe Alt (No. 6 to New York Giants)

Alt is arguably the top offensive tackle in this year's draft after allowing just four sacks in his collegiate career. However, whether the Giants plan to run it back with Daniel Jones or another quarterback, they must build around the position. New York didn't have a receiver eclipse 800 yards receiving in 2023, so adding a playmaker such as Nabers or Odunze makes much more sense.
