Nico Iamaleava Could Be CFB's "Breakout Star"

ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy used to play quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, a vaunted rival of the Tennessee Volunteers. However, McElroy had high praises for Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava. On his show "Always College Football," he left a glowing review of what Iamaleava could do in head coach Josh Heupel's offense.

Iamaleava accounted for four touchdowns in his first career start against the Iowa Hawkeyes, scoring three with his legs. The national scene has always known how talented of a thrower Iamaleava is, but they are beginning to catch up on his real strength: out-of-structure playmaking.

He's one of the top Heisman candidates ahead of the 2024 season, behind several other SEC quarterbacks, namely Georgia's Carson Beck and Texas's Quinn Ewers. The Vols' coaching staff looked in the transfer portal to land a few talented playmakers for Iamaleava. Notre Dame tight end Holden Staes and Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell should be excellent additions to the offense.
