Five random questions to learn more about Fred Lee
What made your decision to come to UB?
FL: The biggest pitch to sell me was the people. They kind of took me around in the community. I went to Elmo’s. That’s one of my favorite wing places, not to promote Elmo’s or nothing but I love that place. And just the people and the atmosphere that was here, that really made me feel at home because I knew I was going 13 hours away from home and that was one of my biggest ideas. I wanted to make sure I was going to a place where I would feel at home, have people that actually cared about me.
How was the transition moving to Buffalo from the South?
FL: The biggest thing was the cold weather. I knew in the winter here it was tough but my roommate/best friend/teammate Alex Neutz, he really helped me out a lot because he was from here. His family actually embraced me. They took me in. I used to stay at his house some Sunday nights and we would have family dinners. That was a big part of me getting used to being here, used to being in Buffalo.
Thoughts on cold weather?
FL: I would have to say I dislike cold weather but because of the brutally cold weather here, I’ve kind of adapted to it. I had no other choice. Either I just freeze or I get used to it. I wouldn’t prefer it, I would prefer weather like this [warm sunny day during interview], but hey, it is what it is.
FL: I have a fear of heights. I don’t like too many heights. We go to Darien Lake every year and it’s a little tough for me to get on the roller coasters and stuff like that. I hate heights and bridges. Bridges are like one of my things so every time I go to Neutz’s house, I have to cross over the Grand Island Bridge so I stay in the left lane and tense up really tight.
Favorite pregame meal?
FL: I’m a big fan of tropical skittles so I usually try not to eat them on game day or whatever because I don’t need the sugar rush but the night before a game, I usually eat a bag of tropical skittles. Candy is one of my big things.
