Each week I go check the Associated Press rankings to see how both North Carolina football as well as the rest of the programs in the Atlantic Coast Conference are doing in the Top 25. After the loss to Wake Forest I did not think that I would see the Tar Heels, however I was pleasently surprised as they stayed in the “Other Receiving Votes” by getting the loneliest number… one. That puts UNC as the 42nd team in the nation. Guess that is not bad for a team that Andrew Jones (@AJonesFoxSports on twitter) gave a C- on his weekly ACC Report Card.

For the trio of schools that have been in the Top 25 from the pre season there was a bit of movements. Beginning with the program most so called experts think should win it all, Florida State, who is now 2-0 after defeating FCS Savannah State, a squad that the vegas insiders had as a 70 points underdog. The Seminoles went from 6th overall (1135 votes) to tied for 5th (1160). The `Noles will host Wake Forest this Saturday. Next up is Clemson, also at 2-0 after taking care of Ball State 52-27, went from 12th (788) to 11th (868). The Tigers’ next opponent will be Furman, who they will host on Saturday. Finally, the third squad from the conference in the Top 25, Virginia Tech, went from 15th (604) to 13th (734) after they took down Austin Peay by the final of 42 to 7. VT will head to Heinz Field to take on future ACC program Pittsburgh.

In the “Others Receiving Votes” section another ACC team has moved back in: Georgia Tech, who was part of the poll in the pre season ranking but had dropped out last week. The Yellow Jackets got 15 votes overall, putting them as the tenth in this category, 35th overall. GT dropped its first game of the year, a conference match up to Top 25 foe Virginia Tech, and then beat Presbyterian 59 to 3 last Saturday. It will be interesting to see if Georgia Tech remains in the ranking as they once again have a ACC battle, hosting 2-0 Virginia this weekend.

For UNC this is going to be a telling week as they will have to prepare for their first Top 25 foe under head coach Larry Fedora, #19 Louisville, and will take play them on the road.
